dear teachers, students:

hello, everyone! today, i lecture entitled 'the last one leaves.' with regard to protection of the environment is very important, i think, from a number of leaders of the speech to appeal to the masses, from the present of you locked the eyebrows and then to our theme of this lecture - 'green.' read the famous american writer o. henry novel 'last leaf' who, presumably still remember these words: 'when the last one, when the leaves fall, and their lives are over, i have to leave this world gone. ... love life painter john simon, is suffering from pneumonia and the brink of big time-limited, 'she gently grabbed the hands of the world's growing weakness, she would really like a soft, delicate leaves, as with the feng cold late autumn, gone away. '

today, more and more territory to see the bad bad, maybe we will finally understand that the last one leaves the fate of mankind will be taken away, never to be alarmist. but we are also pleased to see that our government has to implement sustainable development strategies, while also promulgated more than 10 environmental protection act, 200 a number of environmental standards.

o. henry is a clever writer with 'an o. henry-style ending,' is famous for, then the last one does not withered leaves, brings a new patient peril. i think we will create another europe henry-style ending, usher in the human newborn. do nothing and die, was never the choice of human beings, human beings already awakening, they will take action before the crisis, seize the historic opportunity to turn pressure into motivation to defend the green, to protect our common homeland. to face the reality, we meet the challenge, look to the future, we are confident.

my speech is finished, thank you all.

he values americans live by may seem strange to you. as a result, you might find their actions confusing, even unbelievable. this is my opinion about american value. whether you agree with me or not - or is willing to accept as valid any generalizations about americans - my observations are thought-provoking.

americans do not believe in the power of fate, and they look at people who do as being backward, primitive, or na-iv-e. in the american conte_t, to be 'fatalistic' is to be superstitious, lazy, or unwilling to take initiative. everyone should have control over whatever in the environment might potentially affect him or her. the problems of one's life are not seen as having resulted from bad luck as much as having come from one's lazineand unwillingneto take responsibility in pursuing a better life.

in the american mind, change is seen as indisputably good, leading to development, improvement, progress. many older, more traditional cultures consider change disruptive and destructive; they value stability, continuity, tradition, and ancient heritage - none of which are considered very important in the united states.

time is of utmost importance to most americans. it is something to be on, kept, filled, saved, used, spent, wasted, lost, gained, planned, given, even killed. americans are more concerned with getting things accomplished on time than they are with developing interpersonal relations. their lives seem controlled by the little machines they wear on their wrists, cutting their discussions off abruptly to make their ne_t appointment on time. this philosophy has enabled americans to be e_tremely productive, and productivity is highly valued in their country.

equality is so cherished in the u.s. that it is seen as having a religious basis. americans believe that all people are created equal and that all should have an equal opportunity to succeed. this concept of equality is strange to seven-eighths of the world which views status and authority as desirable, even if they happen to be near the bottom of the social order. since americans like to treat foreigners 'just like anybody else', newcomers to the u.s. should realize that no insult or personal indignity is intended if they are treated in a lethan-deferential manner by waiters in restaurants, clerks in stores and hotels, ta_i drivers, and other service personnel.

auto will remain steadfast in its support of this body. this we shall do in the conviction that you will provide a great share of the wisdom, of the courage, and the faith which can bring to this world lasting peace for all nations, and happineand well-being for all men.

verdanai therefore decided that this occasion warranted my saying to you some of the things that have been on the minds and hearts of my legislative and e_ecutive associates, and on mine, for a great many months -- thoughts i had originally planned to say primarily to the american people.

nevertheless, i assure you that in our deliberations on that lovely island we sought to invoke those same great concepts of universal peace and human dignity which are so cleanly etched in your charter. neither would it be a measure of this great opportunity merely to recite, however hopefully, pious platitudes.

nineteen years ago, almost to the day, we lost three astronauts in a terrible accident on the ground. but we've never lost an astronaut in flight. we've never had a tragedy like this. and perhaps we've forgotten the courage it took for the crew of the shuttle. but they, the challenger seven, were aware of the dangers, but overcame them and did their jobs brilliantly. we mourn seven heroes: michael smith, dick scobee, judith resnik, ronald mcnair, ellison onizuka, gregory jarvis, and christa mcauliffe. we mourn their loas a nation together.

and i want to say something to the schoolchildren of who were watching the live coverage of the shuttle's take-off. i know it's hard to understand, but sometimes painful things like this happen. it's all part of the proceof e_ploration and discovery. it's all part of taking a chance and e_panding man's horizons. the future doesn't belong to the fainthearted; it belongs to the brave. the challenger crew was pulling us into the future, and we'll continue to follow them.

we'll continue our quest in space. there will be more shuttle flights and more shuttle crews and, yes, more volunteers, more civilians, more teachers in space. nothing ends here; our hopes and our journeys continue.

hello judges. i’m a student from the ssfls. my name is zhong shu_in.

in the 21st century, one of the most serious problems we are facing is probably the energy crisis. with the development of technology, we have created a powerful energy source, which is both efficient and low in greenhouse gas emissions, nuclear energy. no doubt, nuclear energy does provide us with a lot of benefits, there are however, many risks which come with using it.

the majority of the risks involve radiation. as we all know, nuclear energy releases masses of radiation which can cause fatal disasters. for instance, the chernobyl nuclear disaster and the fukushima nuclear meltdown. disasters such as these have changed our attitudes towards nuclear energy.

another major risk comes from nuclear weapons. a single nuclear missile can destroy an entire city and cause millions of deaths. during world warⅱ, in order to win the war, countries like russia created enough missiles to destroy the whole world.

in order to protect human beings, many countries have already taken measures to control nuclear energy. institutions like the international atomic energy agency are devoted to strengthening the implementation of safeguards. in my point of view, nuclear energy is a risk but as we are facing an energy shortage, it is the best solution we currently have available. i believe with great effort and responsibility, nuclear energy can be well controlled and continue to serve the world.

the family had just moved to rhode island, and the young woman was feeling a little melancholy on that sunday in may. after all, it was mother's day -- and 800 miles separated her from her parents in ohio.

she had called her mother that morning to wish her a happy mother's day, and her mother had mentioned how colorful the yard was now that spring had arrived. as they talked, the younger woman could almost smell the tantalizing aroma of purple lilacs hanging on the big bush outside her parents'back door.

later, when she mentioned to her husband how she missed those lilacs, he popped up from his chair. 'i know where we can find you all you want, 'he said. 'get the kids and c'mon. '

so off they went, driving the country roads of northern rhode island on the kind of day only mid-may can produce:sparkling sunshine, unclouded azure skies and vibrant newness of the green growing all around. they went past small villages and burgeoning housing developments, past abandoned apple orchards, back to where trees and brush have devoured old homesteads.

于是, 他们就出发了, 驱车行驶在罗德岛北部的乡村小路上, 那种天气只有5月中旬才会有:闪亮的阳光、蔚蓝色的晴空以及生机勃勃、随处可见的绿意。他们穿过一座座小村庄和一座座拔地而起的房屋, 穿过废弃的苹果园, 来到了树林和嗄敬匝谟车睦吓┏ ?/span>;

where they stopped, dense thickets of cedars and ju nipers and birch crowded the roadway on both sides. there wasn't a lilac bush in sight.

'come with me , 'the man said. 'over that hill is an old cellar hole, from somebody's farm of years ago, and there are lilacs all round it. the man who owns this land said i could poke around here anytime. i'm sure he won't mind if we pick a few lilacs. '

before they got halfway up the hill, the fragrance of the lilacs drifted down to them, and the kids started running. soon, the mother began running, too, until she reached the top.

there, far from view of passing motorists and hidden from encroaching civilization, were the towering lilacs bushes, so laden with the huge, cone-shaped flower clusters that they almost bent double. with a smile, the young woman rushed up to the nearest bush and buried her face in the flowers, drinking in the fragrance and the memories it recalled.

while the man e_amined the cellar hole and tried to e_plain to the children what the house must have looked like, the woman drifted among the lilacs. carefully, she chose a sprig here, another one there, and clipped them with her husband's pocket knife. she was in no hurry, relishing each blossom as a rare and delicate treasure.

finally, though, they returned to their car for the trip home. while the kids chattered and the man drove, the woman sat smiling, surrounded by her flowers, a faraway look in her eyes.

when they were within three miles of home, she suddenly shouted to her husband, 'stop the car. stop right here!'

the man slammed on the brakes. before he could ask her why she wanted to stop, the woman was out of the car and hurrying up a nearby grassy slope with the lilacs still in her arms. at the top of the hill was a nursing home and, because it was such a beautiful spring day, the patients were outdoors strolling with relatives or sitting on the porch.

the young woman went to the end of the porch, where an elderly patient was sitting in her wheelchair, alone, head bowed, her back to most of the others. across the porch railing went the flowers, in to the lap of the old woman. she lifted her head, and smiled. for a few moments, the two women chatted, both aglow with happiness, and then the young woman turned and ran back to her family. as the car pulled away, the woman in the wheelchair waved, and clutched the lilacs.

'mom, 'the kids asked, 'who was that?why did you give her our flowers?is she somebody's mother?'the mother said she didn't know the old woman. but it was mother's day, and she seemed so alone, and who wouldn't be cheered by flowers?'besides, 'she added, 'i have all of you, and i still have my mother, even if she is far away. that woman needed those flowers more than i did. '

this satisfied the kids, but not the husband. the ne_t day he purchased half a dozen young lilacs bushes and planted them around their yard, and several times since then he has added more.

i was that man. the young mother was, and is, my wife. now, every may, our own yard is redolent with lilacs. every mother's day our kids gather purple bouquets. and every year i remember that smile on a lonely old woman's face, and the kindness that put the smile there.

win competition of environment protection for beijing

although the __ olympics are still three years away, another special competition has already started in beijing. this time, the competitors are not the athletes from all over the world, but the people living in beijing. the special competition is not held in a stadium, but in every street and every corner of beijing. i suppose some of you may have already guessed what the special competition is. yes, it is the competition of protecting our environment and creating a green beijing for the __ olympic games.

someone may ask who is our rival in this competition? the modern los angeles, the charming sydney, or the historic athens? no, none of them. the real rival is ourselves. it is our bad habits of neglecting to protect environment in our daily life.

several years ago, i was very lucky to have an opportunity to live in the united states for about two years. i not only enjoyed the beautiful environment there, but also appreciated the american peoples active way of protecting their environment. now, whenever the environment protection is mentioned, a beautiful view of california will arise in my mind: white clouds flying acrothe blue sky, green grassplot sprinkled with colorful flowers and small animals playing happily among the trees.
